Chimney Fire, Lightning & Storm Damage

After a chimney fire, a lightning strike or a hail and wind storm, you need to know whether your chimney is still sound. We assess it, document every finding and repair what is damaged.

What it is

A chimney fire can crack liner tiles and damage the masonry without anyone noticing more than a loud roar. Lightning can blow bricks off the top of a chimney or crack it from the inside. Hail and high winds dent caps, tear flashing and loosen crowns. In every case the damage that matters most is often out of sight, which is why a Level 2 inspection with a camera is the standard after these events.

Signs you need it

  • A loud roaring or popping sound from the chimney, or dense smoke and sparks from the top
  • Puffy, honeycombed creosote or flakes in the firebox after a fire
  • Bricks, mortar or pieces of the crown on the roof or ground
  • A dented or missing cap, or bent flashing after a storm
  • A lightning strike on or near the house

What we do

  1. Perform a Level 2 inspection with a video scan of the flue
  2. Document the damage with photos and video, organized for your insurer
  3. Write an itemized scope of repairs you can share with your adjuster
  4. Stabilize the chimney and complete the repairs once you approve

What you get

A clear photo and video record, an itemized scope your insurance company can review, and repairs completed and documented. Your insurance company decides what is covered.

FAQ

Chimney Fire, Lightning & Storm Damage questions.

Should I use my fireplace after a chimney fire?

No. Do not use it again until the chimney has been inspected, ideally with a camera, because liner damage is common and usually invisible from the firebox.

Can you help with my insurance claim?

Yes. We document the damage with photos and video and provide an itemized scope you can share with your insurer. Your insurance company decides what is covered.

How do I know if lightning hit my chimney?

Look for brick or mortar debris on the roof or ground, a damaged cap or crown, cracks, or scorch marks. Damage inside the flue is not visible without an inspection.
