What it is
The inside of a chimney takes the most abuse: high heat, corrosive smoke and moisture. Over the years liner tiles crack, firebox mortar joints erode, smoke chambers get rough and stepped, and dampers rust or warp. These are not cosmetic problems. They let heat and gases reach parts of the house they should never touch.
Signs you need it
- Cracked, missing or gapped flue liner tiles found during an inspection
- Loose or missing mortar or cracked bricks inside the firebox
- A damper that sticks, will not close or lets cold air pour in
- Smoke that rolls into the room even with the damper open
- Rough, stepped brickwork in the smoke chamber above the damper
What we do
- Reline flues with properly sized liners when the original liner is damaged
- Rebuild or repoint firebox walls with heat-rated refractory materials
- Parge the smoke chamber smooth so smoke flows up instead of tumbling back
- Repair or replace dampers, including top-sealing dampers that also keep out rain and animals
- Test the fireplace after the work and show you the result
