What it is
A dryer pushes hot, damp air and lint through a vent duct to the outside. Over time lint collects along the duct, at bends and at the outside hood. A clogged vent makes the dryer run longer and hotter, and lint is flammable. Cleaning removes the buildup along the full vent run.
Signs you need it
- Clothes take more than one cycle to dry
- The dryer or laundry room gets unusually hot
- A burning or musty smell when the dryer runs
- Lint collecting around the outside vent hood, or a hood flap that barely opens
- It has been a year or more since the vent was cleaned
- A long vent run, or one that exits through the roof
What we do
- Protect the laundry area before we start
- Pull the dryer out and disconnect the transition duct
- Brush and vacuum the full vent run
- Clear the outside hood and check that the flap opens
- Reconnect the dryer and check airflow at the hood
What you get
A clear vent run, a reconnected dryer and a short summary of what we found, including any crushed or loose duct we noticed.
