Chimney Cleaning

Every fire leaves creosote and soot behind. We brush the flue clean, protect your home while we work and leave the fireplace ready for the burning season.

Chimney sweep $157

What it is

Chimney cleaning (a chimney sweep) removes the creosote, soot and debris that build up inside the flue, smoke chamber and firebox. Creosote is flammable and it narrows the flue, which hurts draft and can push smoke back into the room. A yearly sweep keeps a wood-burning fireplace, stove or insert drawing well and burning clean.

Signs you need it

  • You burn wood regularly, or it has been a year or more since the last sweep
  • The burning season is coming and you want the fireplace ready
  • Black, flaky or shiny buildup on the damper or inside the firebox
  • A campfire smell in the house, especially in humid weather
  • Smoke that rolls into the room or a fire that is hard to keep going
  • You run a wood stove, fireplace insert or pellet stove

FAQ

Chimney Cleaning questions.

How often should a chimney be cleaned?

If you burn wood, plan on a sweep once a year, ideally before the burning season. Heavy use, unseasoned wood or a stove or insert can mean more frequent cleaning.

What if my chimney has heavy creosote or glaze?

Third-stage (glazed) creosote does not come off with a brush alone. We confirm it with the camera scan and quote removal from $150 before any extra work starts.

Is it messy?

No. We lay drop cloths, protect the hearth and run a HEPA vacuum the whole time, and we clean up before we leave.

Do you clean gas fireplaces and dryer vents too?

Yes. Gas fireplace cleaning and service is $155. Dryer vent cleaning is $147.
