What it is
The national standard (NFPA 211) recommends a Level 2 chimney inspection when a property is sold or transferred. A Level 2 covers everything in a Level 1 plus a video scan of the flue and a look at accessible areas such as the attic and crawl space. A general home inspection usually does not include a video scan of the flue.
Signs you need it
- You are under contract to buy a home with a fireplace, stove or insert
- You are listing a home and want to know the chimney condition first
- The home inspector recommended a chimney specialist
- You do not know when the chimney was last inspected or swept
What we do
- Lay drop cloths and protect the hearth
- Run a camera scan of the full flue
- Check the firebox, damper, smoke chamber and liner
- Check accessible areas such as the attic and crawl space
- Check the crown, cap and flashing from the roof when conditions allow
- Send a same-day photo report with each recommended repair priced on its own line
What you get
A same-day report with photos and video stills you can forward to your agent, plus an itemized quote so repair requests in your negotiation are based on real numbers.
